With the same philosophy as the red, the white wine is to be enjoyed in moments of relaxation, with good friends and good food, to accompany the simple pleasures of life. The grapes, come from vineyards located 600 metres above the sea level, planted with typical Douro varieties, in soils of mica-schist, which give the wine a strong mineral character. In order to make a light, fresh but complex wine, vinification takes place in stainless steel vats and French oak barrels. The illustrations on the label, with different stories on the various editions, reinforce the relaxed character of this wine.

Vinification

2010 was uncommonly wet during winter and early spring, with heavy rains during these months. As a consequence we had high yields and a strong disease pressure in the vineyard. The maturation period was very hot and dry, but fortunately, light rain in the first days of September helped, specially on the older and high altitude vineyards, contributing to a balanced maturation. Grapes were harvested during September, and after a quick pressing without any skin contact, the juice settled for 24h. Fermentation was made in stainless steel vats and French oak barrels. The wine aged in these two types of containers for 9 months with fine lees, without steering and without malolactic fermentation.

Tasting Notes

Very bright colour wine with intense mineral character and strong citric notes. On the palate, shows great acidity with juicy stone fruit flavours, and a very light smoky character. It ends long and salty, which makes the perfect wine at the table.

Vinification

Vineyard burst was uncommonly early in 2011, and all the cycle was anticipated with harvest starting earlier than ever. Nevertheless higher planted vineyards went slower than the others, and when harvest finished, all the wines presented a good quantity of malic acid, which is a very important requirement for a fresh palate in the white wines that don’t undergo malolactic fermentation. Harvest begun in the end of August, and after a quick pressing without any skin contact, the juice settled for 24h. Fermentation was made in stainless steel vats (75%) and French oak barrels (25%). The wine aged in these two types of containers for 7 months with fine lees, without steering and without malolactic fermentation.

Tasting Notes

Citric coloured wine, with intense mineral character and strong citric aromas, peaches and white flower notes. On the palate, shows great balance and complexity, with juicy stone fruit flavours, and a refreshing acidity. Very long and salty aftertaste.

Vinification

2012 was marked by a lack of rain in the Douro region. As a consequence, the growth cycle of the vines began, on average, 15 days later than in previous years. On the other hand, winter 2012 also had very low temperatures, allowing a suitable and balanced growth of the vegetation. The maturation period was cooler than usual, giving a good balance in the total acidity of the musts.

The grapes were harvested in early September. After a strict selection process on the sorting table, they were pressed slowly. The must was allowed to stand for 24 hours without skin maceration, and this was followed by a slow fermentation for 9 months, without batonnage.

Tasting Notes

The 2012 White has a vivid and crystal clear citrine colour. The nose is mineral, with a pronounced character of very cool white fruit aromas.

In the mouth, it starts fresh, balanced and complex. The aromas are of pure white fruit, combined with smoky notes that emphasise the authenticity of this wine. It has a long finish, ending with a saltiness that is typical of the terroir.

Vinification

The 2013 harvest began on the 19th August, earlier than usual, in order to safeguard acidity levels and avoid high alcohol levels. The year was particularly productive, around 25% more than the previous year. The decision to start harvesting earlier turned out to be the right one, since all the main vines had been harvested before heavy rain began to fall on the 27th September.

The grapes, from vines growing on the right bank of the Douro, were transported at night in a refrigerated truck. After careful selection on arrival at the winery, they were gently pressed at a low temperature to avoid oxidation and extraction of gross lees.

After decantation for around 24 hours, 10% of the must was fermented in French oak barrels and the remainder in stainless steel vats for eight months, with indigenous yeasts. The wine was bottled on the 19th May 2014.

Tasting Notes

The 2013 vintage boasts a delicate finesse and elegance. The aroma is decidedly mineral, with fresh fruit and spring flower notes. On the palate it is complex yet fresh, light yet concentrated, with a very balanced acidity. The long finish, marked by citrus notes, is both fresh and refreshing. Perfect for a wide range of occasions.

Vinification

The viticultural year of 2014 at Quinta de Nápoles was characterised as a year of lower quantity but higher quality. Everything indicated an early year, due to the large amount of water accumulated during the winter and spring. The maturation phase occurred early and allowed the beginning of the harvest in August. At Quinta de Nápoles most parcels were harvested over a period of good weather between 23 August and 21 September.

The grapes, from vines located at altitude on the right bank of the Douro, were transported at night in a refrigerated truck. After careful selection on arrival at the winery, they were gently pressed at a low temperature to avoid oxidation and extraction of gross lees.

After natural decantation for around 24 hours, 10% of the must was fermented in French oak barrels and the remainder in stainless steel vats for eight months, with its indigenous yeasts. The wine was bottled in May 2015.

Tasting Notes

The 2014 vintage shows the fresh and balanced character of the viticultural year. Fresh and delicate aroma, decidedly mineral. Good notes of fresh fruit, citrus and some exotic fruit. On the palate, it is appellative and very elegant , with good acidity, fresh and refreshing. The finish leaves good citric and mineral notes. A very balanced white, with presence but not too strong. Perfect for a wide range of occasions.

Vinification

The weather conditions of the viticultural year 2015 were very favourable, with sun, a warm temperature and low humidity, allowing a homogeneous vegetative growth. One of the particular features of this viticultural year was the vineyard ability to remain hydrated during ripening. In late August, early September, the basal leaves still remained green and moist, with hydrated berries and a thick, firm skin. The balance of the musts, the softness of the tannins, and the intense colour concentration indicate that this is an exceptional year.

The grapes were transported at night in a refrigerated truck, and after careful selection on arrival at the winery, they were gently pressed at a low temperature to avoid oxidation and extraction of gross lees.

After natural decantation for around 24 hours, 15% of the must was fermented in French oak barrels and the remainder in stainless steel vats for 8 months. The wine was bottled in May 2016.

Tasting Notes

Although young and moderate in the aroma, the balance and harmony of the 2015 harvest are remarkable. With fresh, delicate, and decidedly mineral aroma, the citrine fruits and fresh herbs notes stand out. On the palate, it is enveloping and very elegant, with good acidity. The finish is fresh with good citric and mineral notes. A young, lively, and very easy-drinking white. Perfect for a wide range of occasions.

Vinification

The 2016 vintage proved to be very atypical, with a warm and rainy winter, a cool and very wet spring and an extremely hot and dry summer. The weather conditions led to very early budburst (around 2 weeks early), followed nevertheless by a delay in the vegetative cycle during spring, especially with regard to véraison, which occurred approximately 2 weeks later than usual.

Sourced from vines planted on the right bank of the Douro River at an altitude of 550 to 700m, the grapes were transported to the cellar at night under temperature-controlled conditions. Upon arrival, the grapes were sorted and gently pressed at low temperatures in order to avoid oxidation and too much extraction.

After being left to settle naturally for approximately 24 hours, 30% of the must fermented in used French barriques and the remainder fermented in stainless steel tanks for 8 months. The wine fermented with indigenous yeasts and was bottled in May 2017.

Tasting Notes

Although this wine is still very young, it is already showing beautiful balance and harmony, with delicate, fresh and mineral aromas as well as citrus and fresh herbal notes peeking out from the background. The palate is intriguing, and shows good acidity levels. This is a white wine which is well-structured without seeming too heavy, culminating in an elegant finish with delightful notes of citrus and minerality. It offers youth, vivacity and great drinkability, making it a perfect white wine for various occasions.

In order to emphasise the Douro character in this white wine, we sourced vineyard blocks growing at higher altitudes, planted with indigenous grape varieties in mica-schist soils, which express the true, stony character of this valley. By fermenting the fruit in stainless steel tanks, we were able to obtain both complexity and lightness in the wine. The labels of the Diálogo have been illustrated by Luís Afonso from the very first vintage onwards.

Vinification

2017 was a year of extreme drought. We began picking the grapes on 10 September and finished on 10 October – a very short and intense harvest. The grapes used for the

Diálogo Branco stem from high-altitude vineyard sites in the Douro Valley, from vines aged between 15 and 55 years. The majority of the fruit from the 2017 vintage were firm, with crunchy skins and in excellent condition. Thanks to Niepoort’s philosophy of harvesting relatively early, we were able to obtain fruit with a good balance between acidity and sugar levels, allowing us to produce fresh and elegant wines. After being transported chilled to the Quinta de Nápoles, the grapes were gently pressed in stainless steel tanks, where they cold-macerated for approximately 24 hours. Fermentation took place at low temperatures in stainless steel, and the wine matured on its lees until bottling.

Tasting Notes

Despite its youth, this wine already shows good balance and harmony. On the nose, it appears fresh, delicate and full of minerality, with dominant notes of citrus and fresh herbs. The palate is full-bodied, with a very pleasant acidity. In this light white wine, citrusy, mineral aromas follow through right to the finish. This is an easy-to-drink wine with great liveliness – the perfect partner for various occasions.

By fermenting the fruit in stainless steel tanks, we were able to obtain both complexity and lightness in the wine. The labels of the Diálogo have been illustrated by Luís Afonso from the very first vintage onwards.

Vinification

2018 was a relatively cool year up until August, with the coolest July recorded in the 21st century. The vines seemed to be developing relatively late, with a delay of about 3 weeks compared to 2017. The first days of August brought a sudden spike in temperatures: the 4th of August was the hottest year to date this century. As a result, the berries ripened slowly during the month of September. The water stress caused the vines to produce musts with low alcohols and good phenolic ripeness, as well as good complexity and minerality. The grapes used for the Diálogo Branco stem from 15-year-old to 55-year-old vines growing at 350 to 500 metres above sea level. The fruit was transported chilled to the Quinta de Nápoles, and was then sorted on the sorting table before being pressed whole-bunch in a pneumatic press. After being was left to settle at low temperatures, the juice was transferred into stainless steel tanks where it fermented spontaneously under controlled temperatures. The wine was aged on the fine lees for 6 months without bâtonnage until bottling.

Tasting Notes

Despite its still youthful and austere aromatic profile, the balance and harmony of the 2018 vintage is evident, with refreshing notes of fresh herbs, citrus and minerality. On the palate, the wine is vibrant and very elegant, showing good acidity and distinct freshness. The finish provides pleasant citrusy notes. An easy-to-drink white wine full of youth and vivacity which will lend itself very well to various occasions.

Vinification

The 2019 growing year was relatively dry. Spring started off with high temperatures which then dropped, remaining low during the whole summer. Some rainfall occurred at the exact time of budbreak, and flowering took place under excellent weather conditions, leading to medium to high yields and healthy berries. The mild days and cool nights of the month of August allowed for slow and balanced ripening.

Harvesting began on 8 August and concluded on 1 October.

We consider the 2019 vintage to be an exceptional one, with perfect balance between the natural acidity and sugar content of the musts, creating white wines of great purity.

The fruit was transported to the Quinta de Nápoles in refrigerated trucks, and then sorted carefully upon arrival at the winery before being pressed in an automatic press. After cold-settling, the musts were racked into stainless steel tanks where they fermented spontaneously at controlled temperatures and then spent a further 6 months maturing on the fine lees without bâtonage.

Tasting Notes

The 2019 viticultural year was very balanced, with medium to high yields in the Douro region. The bunches were able to ripen slowly and retain the necessary acidity levels to produce balanced and refreshing wines.

The Diálogo Branco 2019 is a great example of the Niepoort style: austere and deeply mineral. This is a fresh white wine with herbaceous and citrusy notes on the nose as well as a youthful character which nevertheless promises great ageing potential. Overall, a wine of great finesse and elegance, ending in an electric finish which will linger enticingly in your mind.
