2014 is the first edition of the Conciso Branco, a fresh and elegant white wine from the Dão region which shows off the potential of its old vines and granite terroir. The grapes come from Quinta da Lomba, which has exceptionally old vineyards, with some vines being almost a century old. These sites are planted predominantly with Bical, Encruzado and Malvasia, among other indigenous grape varieties of the region.
- Vinification
Unlike other regions, Dão saw very little rain in 2014. We experienced weeks of intense heat, with dry nights and a lot of sunshine already from the morning onwards – in other words, excellent conditions for the beginning of harvest which started on 10 September for the whites and on 22 September for the reds. Having ended on 27 September, the harvest was short and took place under ideal weather conditions. The wine was fermented under controlled temperatures in granite tanks and then matured for 20 months without bâtonnage in used 228 l barrels where it also underwent malolactic fermentation.
- Tasting Notes
The Conciso Branco 2014 displays a beautiful golden yellow hue. Its aromas are delicate and engaging, with a lovely harmony between white fruits, herbs and very subtle hints of dried fruit as well as light smoky notes from the barrels. This complex white wine unfurls in the glass, offering plenty of minerality and freshness. The palate offers a wonderfully full and slightly unctuous body which is beautifully counterbalanced by the wine’s mineral character and acidity. The finish is very long, with incredible depth and a final touch of wood.

With this second edition of the Conciso Branco, we have once again tried to create a fresh and elegant white wine from the Dão region which shows off the potential of its old vines and granite terroir. The grapes come from the Quinta da Lomba, which has exceptionally old vineyards, with some vines being almost a century old. These sites are planted predominantly with Bical, Encruzado and Malvasia, among other indigenous grape varieties of the region.
- Vinification
In the Dão region, 2015 experienced a much drier winter compared to the previous year, but the rainfall at the beginning of spring replenished the soil’s water reserves a little, which supported the vines during the dry months of spring and summer. Since 2015 was an early vintage, véraison began in July and harvest started a week earlier than in the previous year. It was a short harvest, which occurred under ideal weather conditions and ended on 19 September. The wine was fermented at controlled temperatures in granite tanks, and then matured for 20 months, without bâtonnage, in used 228 litre barriques where it also completed malolactic fermentation.
- Tasting Notes
The Conciso Branco 2015 displays a beautiful lemon-yellow hue. Its aromas are delicate and engaging, with a lovely harmony between white fruits, aromatic herbs and an overall mineral character. The subtle hints of wood are well-integrated. This complex white wine unfurls in the glass, offering plenty of minerality and freshness. On the palate, the pleasantly full and slightly unctuous body is beautifully counterbalanced by the wine’s mineral character, fresh fruit and acidity. It finishes on a wonderfully long and crisp note.

With this third edition of the Conciso Branco, we have once again tried to create a fresh and elegant white wine from the Dão region which shows off the potential of its old vines and granite terroir. The grapes come from the Quinta da Lomba, which has exceptionally old vineyards, with some vines being almost a century old. These sites are planted predominantly with Bical, Encruzado and Malvasia, among other indigenous grape varieties of the region.
- Vinification
2016 experienced a mild winter and a spring with very high rainfall and humidity which lasted through to summer. Despite the disease pressure that these weather conditions exert on the vines, the vines remained completely undamaged thanks to our biodynamic practices and the resulting increased resistance to disease.
As a result of the weather conditions and the delay in the vines’ growth cycle, the harvest was somewhat delayed and only started on 12 September. However, the rain stayed away during the harvest period, which improved the concentration of the fruit.
The wine fermented in granite tanks under controlled temperatures, and was then transferred to older 500L barrels where it completed its malolactic fermentation and matured for 20 months, without bâtonnage.
- Tasting Notes
The Conciso Branco 2016 displays a beautiful lemon-yellow hue. Its aromas are delicate and engaging, with spicy and subtle herbaceous notes, white fruit, aromatic herbs and an overall mineral character. The hints of oak are less pronounced than in the previous vintages. On the palate, it proves itself to be a white wine with grip and a pleasantly full body, beautifully counterbalanced by a distinct tension and assertive acidity. This is a wine which truly shows its full splendour after some time in the glass and which will pair perfectly with richer cuisine. It finishes on a wonderfully long and crisp note.

The grapes come from the Quinta da Lomba, which has exceptionally old vineyards, with some vines being almost a century old. These sites are planted predominantly with Bical, Encruzado and Malvasia, among other indigenous grape varieties of the region.
- Vinification
The 2017 viticultural year experienced a dry winter, with much lower rainfall than the average in the past 30 years. A hot and dry spring followed, with heat waves which persisted to the beginning of summer. With the increase of average temperatures and the lack of rainfall, we have seen an advance of about 2 weeks in the vines’ vegetative cycle, from budbreak to veraison.
This situation carried on through summer, leading to an early start to a harvest that proved to be particularly intense and short.
The wine fermented in granite tanks under controlled temperatures, and was then transferred to older 500L barrels where it completed its malolactic fermentation and matured for 20 months, without bâtonnage.
- Tasting Notes
The 2017 Conciso Branco displays a beautiful lemon colour. Its aromas appear austere, with a mineral undertone harmonising perfectly with the notes of white blossoms, honey and aromatic herbs. The wood is less noticeable than in previous vintages. This is a white wine with good body on the palate as well as beautiful acidity which balances out the unctuous character typical of the Encruzado and Malvasia Fina grape varieties. A complex wine such as this needs a little bit of time in the glass to fully open up, and will be an ideal pairing for richer dishes. The finish is very long, delicate and refreshing.

With this fifth edition of the Conciso Branco, we have once again tried to create a fresh and elegant white wine from the Dão region which shows off the potential of its old vines and granite terroir. The grapes come from the Quinta da Lomba, which has exceptionally old vineyards, with some vines being almost a century old. These sites are planted predominantly with Bical, Encruzado and Malvasia, among other indigenous grape varieties of the region.
- Vinification
2018 posed us some challenges with its weather conditions during the first part of the year, leading to an inevitable reduction in yields obtained during harvest.
Despite a rainy start to the year, summer was hot and quite dry, which allowed the grapes to ripen nicely, therefore providing us with fruit of promising quality.
After preventatively treating the vines, we began the harvest with the white wine grapes on 3 September and concluded the harvest with the last reds on 10 October.
In spite of the aforementioned reduced yields, we obtained fruit of mostly remarkable quality, with the wines showing balanced acidity levels and slightly higher alcohol contents.
The wines produced at the Quinta da Lomba were fermented in granite tanks before undergoing malolactic fermentation and ageing for 20 months in used 228L barrels, without bâtonnage.
- Tasting Notes
The Conciso Branco 2018 displays a beautiful lemon-yellow hue. Its aromas are delicate and engaging, with a lovely harmony between white fruits, aromatic herbs and an overall mineral character. The subtle hints of wood are well-integrated. This complex white wine unfurls in the glass, offering plenty of minerality and freshness. - Vinification
The 2019 vintage was a very balanced year in the Dão. Much like in the Bairrada region, the incidence of disease was very low and there was almost no need to treat the vines. The dry and extremely hot conditions in the summer caused the grapes to ripen early: harvesting began on 28 August and ended on 29 September.
In our opinion, it was a good year, with balanced acidity and more colour intensity than usual. Fermentation occurred as expected, with slightly higher alcohol levels that in previous vintages, without however compromising the freshness and elegance of the wines in general.
The wines produced at the Quinta da Lomba were fermented in granite tanks before undergoing malolactic fermentation and ageing for 20 months in used 228L barrels, without bâtonnage.
- Tasting Notes
The Conciso Branco 2019 displays a beautiful lemon colour. Its oaky hints are balanced out by aromas of citrus, stone fruit and aromatic herbs. On the palate, it shows good structure and elegance, with an acidity that renders the wine lively and gives it a long and refreshing finish.

- Vinification
The 2020 vintage experienced a long, harsh winter with relatively high rainfall. An almost inexistent spring was followed by a mild summer with a few days of intense heat. These conditions made it quite difficult to control disease and ripeness in the grapes.
Once the fruit reached our desired level of ripeness, the harvest began, spanning from 25 August to 24 September. It was a challenging year, but one that gave us wines with beautiful acidity and excellent ageing potential.
The wines produced at the Quinta da Lomba were fermented in granite tanks before undergoing malolactic fermentation and ageing for 20 months in used 228L barrels, without bâtonnage.
- Tasting Notes
Conciso Branco 2020 has a beautiful citric colour. The oaky notes are more subtle in comparison to the last vintage 2019. The nose reveals notes of honey, citrus, apricot and spices like vanilla bean. Its complexity is very well integrated with the oak. The palate is structured and elegant. The balanced acidity makes it is lively, long and fresh.
