The Quinta da Lomba Tinto 2016 not only embodies everything that the Dão region’s grape varieties have to offer but also the splendour of its hundred-year-old vines.
Right from the first tasting, it was clear that this is a very special wine!
A maturation period of 4 years in barrels and 2 years in bottle resulted in this “Garrafeira” from the Dão region – an extraordinary, aged wine!
The detail on the wine label shows the cover crops which grow in all our vineyards thanks to our avoidance of herbicides.
- Vinification
2016 experienced a mild winter and a spring with very high rainfall and humidity which lasted through to the beginning of summer. Despite the disease pressure that these weather conditions exert on the vines, the vines remained completely undamaged thanks to our biodynamic practices and the resulting increased resistance to disease.
Due to the weather conditions and the delay in the vines’ growth cycle and maturation process, the harvest was somewhat delayed and only started on 12 September. However, the rain stayed away during the harvest period, which improved the concentration and health of the fruit.
Alcoholic fermentation process took place in lagars, resulting in an elegant wine which then spent 4 years ageing in old 2500 L barrels at Quinta da Lomba.
The wine was bottled completely unfiltered.
- Tasting Notes
The Quinta da Lomba Garrafeira Tinto 2016 distinguishes itself through its elegance, complexity, and structure.
Its colour is bright, with medium depth and violet glints when the wine is swirled in the glass.
Delicate notes of blackberry and red fruits mingle on the nose with floral aromas and hints of aromatic herbs and balsamic nuances.
The wine’s tobacco and balsamic aromas reveal the wine’s rustic character.
Its delicate and complex palate showcases a deeply elegant backbone and fine tannin structure. The region’s quintessential acidity is evident in the length and harmony of the wine’s finish
