The Dócil Moscatel is produced from 100% Moscatel Galego grapes, a variety with a very distinctive identity, characterised by its floral and citrusy aromas. The goal was to vinify a light, fresh and joyful wine based on the acidity and aromatic expression of the grape variety. Due to its low alcohol content and light residual sweetness, the wine is superbly balanced, similarly to some German white wines.
- Vinification
The 2018 vintage was relatively cool up until August, with the coldest July recorded of the 21st century. In comparison to 2017, ripening was delayed by about 3 weeks. The first days of August brought a sudden increase in temperatures, with 4 August being the hottest day of the 21st century (to date). This meant that the grapes matured slowly in the month of September. Due to water stress, we obtained musts with low alcohol contents and good phenolic ripeness, with plenty of complexity and lightness.
The grapes of the Moscatel Galego were picked in August in order to obtain a perfect balance between the acidity and level of ripeness.
After arriving at the Quinta de Nápoles, the grapes were carefully sorted and transferred to lagars, where they were gently macerated, allowing them to retain the intensity and delicate aromas typical of their grape variety.
Alcoholic fermentation began in stainless steel tanks, at low temperatures and with the fine lees. The fermentation process was later stopped through cooling, and the wine was transferred to isothermal tanks in order to preserve a good sugar/acidity balance.
- Tasting Notes
Displaying a lemon yellow colour, the Dócil Moscatel 2018 is a wine which builds on the aromatic intensity of the Moscatel grape variety, with herbaceous notes and aromas of stone fruit and exotic fruit on the nose. Its juicy palate offers plenty of acidity, lending the wine enough freshness to balance out its sweetness. The finish is long and very lively. This wine is best enjoyed chilled (8°C) and preferably as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to light dishes.
