Moscatel Dócil is yet another experience of the Niepoort projects. One of the world's great grape varieties, in one of the world's great regions. We aspired to produce a light, fresh and young wine, based on the acidity and aromatic expression of the variety. 3500 bottles were bottled in this second edition.
- Vinification
Flowering was very early in 2011 and the entire vegetative cycle occurred ahead of time, with the harvest starting earlier than ever before. However, ripening on the vine sown at a higher altitude was slower and in the end all the wines presented good amounts of malic acid, which greatly contributed to the freshness of the white wines.
Following refrigerated transport and careful selection, the grapes were channeled by gravity to the lagar, where skin maceration took place. During this first stage, contact between the skins and the must was essential to privilege the fine and delicate aromas of the variety.
Alcoholic fermentation took place in stainless steel isothermal vats with fine lees at a low temperature. Alcoholic fermentation did not come to an end, allowing some sugar to be retained.
- Tasting Notes
With a pale, crystaline yellow colour, almost transparent, Moscatel Dócil 2011 has a very floral nose mixed with tropical fruit notes. On the palate, is fresh, elegant, very light and delicate. Its fruity taste is of particular note, where the sweetness enriches the overall balance. It has a long finish. A wine with great ageing potential.

Moscatel Dócil (Ron Ron) is 100% from the Moscatel Galego variety. A variety with an identity of its own, characterised by its floral and citric aromas. We aspired to produce a light, fresh and young wine, based on the acidity and aromatic expression of the variety. Just like the cat, the wine is docile but with an unique and very distinctive personality.
- Vinification
The 2013 harvest began on 19 August, earlier than usual, in order to maintain the high levels of acidity and avoid high degrees of alcohol. It was a more productive year, around 25% better than the pevious. The decision to start harvesting earlier turned out to be the right one, since the main vineyards had already been harvested before it started raining heavily on the 27th September.
Alcoholic fermentation did not come to an end, allowing some sugar to be retained, balancing the high acidity.
- Tasting Notes
With a slightly crystal yellow colour, almost transparent, the Moscatel Dócil 2013 has a very floral nose mixed with tropical and exotic fruit notes. On the palate, is a fresh, mineral, and elegant wine, very light and delicate. Due to the low alcohol degree and some residual sugar, the wine has an excellent harmony sugar/acidity, inspired on the white wines from Germany. Fresh and very vibrant ending, with all the character from the Moscatel variety. To drink while young, but is very interesting to keep some bottles at the lodge. To be served well chilled (8º/10ºC).

Moscatel Dócil (Ron Ron) is 100% made with Moscatel Galego variety. A variety with an identity of its own, characterized by its floral and citric aromas. The aim is to produce a light, fresh and young wine, based on the acidity and aromatic expression of the variety. Due to the low alcohol degree and some residual sugar, Moscatel Dócil, has an excellent harmony and was inspired on the white wines from Germany. Just like the cat, it is docile but with an unique and very distinctive personality.

The 2014 harvest was slightly lower in production compared with 2013, but certainly made up for it in quality. Harvest began in early September, as usual, in order to maintain the high levels of acidity, balance and freshness. As in the previous year, the early start avoided rain, later in the month and over ripen fruit in the more exposed vineyards.
Following refrigerated transport and careful selection, the grapes were led by gravity to the lagar, where the skin maceration took place. During this first stage, the contact between the skins and the must was essential to privilege the fine and delicate aromas of the variety.
Alcoholic fermentation took place in stainless steel isothermal vats with the fine lees at a low temperature. Alcoholic fermentation did not come to an end, allowing some sugar to be maintained and balance the high acidity.
- Tasting Notes
With crystal yellow colour, the Moscatel Dócil 2014 has a typical and well-defined aroma of the Moscatel variety, with the floral notes well integrated with the tropical fruit notes. On the palate, is very fresh and delicate, with a vibrant finish. To drink well chilled (8º/10ºC). Perfect as aperitif or at the end of a meal.

The Moscatel Dócil (Ron Ron) is produced from 100% Moscatel Galego grapes, a variety with a very distinctive identity, characterised by its floral and citrusy aromas. The goal was to vinify a light, fresh and joyful wine based on the acidity and aromatic expression of the grape variety. Due to its low alcohol content and light residual sweetness, the wine is superbly balanced, similarly to some German white wines. It is soft and gentle like a cat (as its name “Dócil” suggests), yet has its own unique and strong personality.
- Vinification
The beginning of the 2015 viticultural year brought a cold and dry winter, with the lowest precipitation levels ever recorded. On the other hand, spring and summer were extremely dry and hot – these conditions only changed in August.
Thanks to the low rainfall, the risk of disease remained very low and we were rewarded with magnificent and particularly healthy berries.
The grapes for the Moscatel Galego were harvested at the beginning of the season, on 3 September, and showed perfect balance between their acidity and ripeness.
After being transported under temperature-controlled conditions to the Quinta de Nápoles, in Alijó, the grapes were meticulously sorted and deposited into lagares where they went through a gentle maceration process which preserved all the intensity and subtlety of the characteristic aromas of this grape variety.
Alcoholic fermentation started in stainless steel vats at a low temperature on the fine lees. Later, fermentation was stopped when the wine was transferred to isothermic tanks, allowing us to maintain the balance between sugar and acidity.
- Tasting Notes
With a brilliant yellow colour, the Moscatel Dócil 2015 is resplendent with typical floral notes and tropical fruit. On the palate, it is elegant and fine, with excellent acidity which lends the wine freshness and drinking pleasure. The finish is very lively and long. It should be enjoyed chilled to around 8°C - 10°C. Thanks to its high acidity, this Moscatel is ideal as an aperitif, while its sweetness makes it a perfect way to finish a meal on a light note.

- Vinification
