With the mission of respecting biodiversity, we are recovering several old vines of white varieties in Dão, going beyond the variety Encruzado, predominant in the region. Rótulo white results from a blend of varieties, almost forgotten, like Borrado das Moscas, Rabo de Ovelha and Cercial, among others. Without any influence of barrels, we created a delicate, light, and harmonious wine, that reflects the granite, very typical of this region.
- Vinification
The viticultural year 2015 in Dão was marked by a drier winter than in the previous year and the rain in early spring allowed to obtain some water reserves in the soil that supported the plant during the dry months of spring and summer. Being an early year, in July the vine was already in the verison phase and the harvest began one week earlier than the last year. The grapes coming from old vines were carefully transported to the cellar, where they were pressed. The alcoholic fermentation occurred in stainless steel vats, and the ageing took 12 months in cement vats in the presence of fine lees.
- Tasting Notes
Yellow bright and very light colour, the Rótulo white 2015 has a delicate aroma, with a vegetal component strongly present, in harmony with some notes of stone and slight notes of white fruit. Structured, with good mouth volume, is a white with presence, supported by a good acidity and a strong mineral component. Refreshing, provides a delicate finish, with notes of fruit and fresh herbs.

As part of our mission to honour biodiversity, we have been recovering various old white grape vineyards in Dão, going beyond than just Encruzado – the predominant variety of the region. The Rótulo Branco is a blend of almost extinct varieties such as Borrado das Moscas, Rabo de Ovelha and Cercial, among others. Without any influence from oak, we have created a delicate, light and well-balanced wine which reflects the granitic soils that are so typical of this region.
- Vinification
The 2017 viticultural year experienced a dry winter, with much lower rainfall than the average in the past 30 years. A hot and dry spring followed, with heat waves which persisted to the beginning of summer. With the increase of average temperatures and the lack of rainfall, we have seen an advance of about 2 weeks in the vines’ vegetative cycle, from budbreak to veraison.
This situation carried on through summer, leading to an early start to a harvest that proved to be particularly intense and short.
The grapes were harvested from old vines and then carefully transported to the cellar where they were pressed. Alcoholic fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, whereafter the wine was matured for 12 months in cement tanks on its fine lees.
- Tasting Notes
The Rótulo Branco 2017 delights the eye with a brilliant and very light lemon colour, and offers aromas which initially present themselves as shy but exceptionally delicate, with notes of pear and white flowers beautifully balanced out by hints of stone. With some body on the palate, this is a silky white wine with beautiful texture provided by the pleasant acidity and citrusy character. It concludes with a long finish full of fruit and fresh herbs. A wine that offers a lot of drinking pleasure on various occasions!

- Vinification
The 2019 vintage was a very balanced year in the Dão. Much like in the Bairrada region, the incidence of disease was very low and there was almost no need to treat the vines. The dry and extremely hot conditions in the summer caused the grapes to ripen early: harvesting began on 28 August and ended on 29 September.
In our opinion, it was a good year, with balanced acidity and more colour intensity than usual. Fermentation occurred as expected, with slightly higher alcohol levels that in previous vintages, without however compromising the freshness and elegance of the wines in general.
- Tasting Notes
Displaying a very delicate lemon colour, the Rótulo Branco 2019 has a fresh aromatic profile where white blossoms mingle seamlessly with some nuances of terroir. A full mouth feel makes this an appealing wine with texture supported a beautiful acidity and citrusy flavours. The wine finishes long, with some last hints of fresh fruit and herbs. A wine which will enliven many different occasions!

- Vinification
The 2020 vintage experienced a long, harsh winter with relatively high rainfall. An almost inexistent spring was followed by a mild summer with a few days of intense heat. These conditions made it quite difficult to control disease and ripeness in the grapes.
Once the fruit reached our desired level of ripeness, the harvest began, spanning from 25 August to 24 September. It was a challenging year, but one that gave us wines with beautiful acidity and excellent ageing potential.
The Rótulo Branco was fermented normally, without the use of wood.
- Tasting Notes
With its very pale lemon colour, the Rótulo Branco 2020 presents crisp aromas: white blossoms mingle with notes reminiscent of the wine’s terroir. The palate offers good body, a silky texture and a citrusy acidity providing a good backbone. Fruity notes and hints of fresh herbs accompany its long finish. This is a wine which offers great drinking pleasure for many different occasions!
